All schools and offices in the Halifax Regional School Board are closed today Jan 5/2018.

Today's decision was based on the following information:

    Wind warning continuing until 9 am with gusts up to 100 km before gradually subsiding
    Widespread power outages throughout the municipality
    Temperatures to fall to near freezing creating slippery road conditions
    At least 40 schools currently without power
    Almost 100 schools had power outage events and need to be assessed to ensure fire alarms, internet, telephone, furnace, etc. are working
    All 134 schools need to be assessed for possible infrastructure damage

The HRSB takes great care when making the decision to cancel school in the event of severe or inclement weather.
